- Black Jade Dragon
Sculpted from the finest black nephrite from the initial small pod which was discovered at Cowel in South Australia toward the latter 1960′s.
This particular deposit was not extensive and soon worked out. Subsequently the so called Prime Australian Black Jade of today derives it’s now dubious reputation from these early finds. No longer is the totally even textured, highly felted black available but it’s close cousin with a crystaline structure is readily obtainable.

When we read the story of Eve and the Serpent it implies the iniquitous creature possessed the ability to voice it’s will with intelligence.
Beguiling Eve to partake of the Forbidden Fruit from the Tree of Knowledge.
Thus indicating the Eternal Serpent had the power of speech, therefore the mouth and lips, and able speak with intelligence, which is represented by the humanoid appearance. As a direct consequence of this violation the Divine Being punished this mystical entity by forever more confining it to the earth, moving on it’s belly, in fear, under the Heels of Man. Suggesting a previous form of locomotion which is often interpreted as flight, therefore the wings….. supporting belief of the Fabled Flying Serpent and Mythical Dragons !
Virtually all cultures have an ancient belief in their mythology of Flying Serpents Possessing Great Intelligence.
Portrayed here is the ‘Recumbent Dragon”, hand carved from flawless Black Jade. A slight, knowing smile on the lips, illustrating the rising consciousness of this Timeless Entity.

- Final Sketch for the carving of the Black Jade Dragon
Many months of thoughts and mental pictures revolving around the concept of a Recumbent Dragon culminated in this pencil sketch.
Once the stone to actually carve such a piece was decided on and selected the drawing of the concept was a quick process.
So much mental preparation had clarified the image sufficiently that it was almost unnecessary to draw the design.

finest, rare black nephrite jades on the planet.
A creative sculptured jade of similar stature, although an abstract design, was parted with recently for a little over $20,000.
