Fully Sculpted N.Z. Inanga Jade ‘Dragon Rising’

This extraordinary, original jade sculpture is an excellent example of the gem quality nephrite of New Zealand.   Much sought after Inanga of this high quality is extremely rare. The particular stone selected for this creature is tightly felted and somewhat harder than the Moh’s scale of hardness for nephrite which is 5.5 to 6. A test with jadeite, which is 6 to 6.5, had a scratch mark left on the jadeite rather than the other way around. A perfect stone for this creative design of contemporary jade carving.

Orientating the pattern with the selected jade. Note the chatoyant veins on the other end of this block which are also very tight and capable of being carved. A very rare aspect for chatoyant jade.

The wing positions are a slight departure from the sketch and are carved touching the main body of the piece for two reasons….. The foremost for strength and durability. The other for possible suspension as an adornment piece for the bold to wear as a startling, suspended Dragon Sculpture.  An incredible, personal Guardian!!!
